The Hershey Bears announced that they are re-signing two forwards. Both are re-signed to AHL contracts for the 2026-27 season. They are Dalton Smith and Jalen Luypen, who started the season with Hershey before going to Tucson, but returned to Hershey for the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Smith this season in 60 had six points on two goals and four assists. He was -17, but he’s more known as the enforcer of the Bears, finishing with 85 penalty minutes. He had a five-minute fighting penalty in one of the three Calder Cup Playoff games this season.

Luypen, in two games with Hershey, had a goal and was a plus-one. In three Calder Cup games, he was held pointless and was a minus-one. Luypen also played in 22 games with the Tucson RoadRunners, recording 6 points on four goals and two assists. He was a plus-eight. Luypen played in 35 games with ECHL South Carolina, recording 37 points on 14 goals and 23 assists. He was a +11 with two power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, and four game-winning goals. In three Kelly Cup Playoff games, he had four points on three goals and an assist. He was a minus-four.

Dalton Smith 

Smith has appeared in 580 AHL games over a 13-year career. He has 85 points on 37 goals and 48 assists. He is a -74 with two power play goals, two game-winning goals, and 1,053 penalty minutes. In 15 Calder Cup Playoff games, he’s a minus-two with 34 penalty minutes. 

Jalen Luypen

Luypen has played in 144 career AHL games, recording 41 points on 17 goals and 24 assists. He is a plus-ten with three shorthanded goals and two game-winning goals. He has appeared in 17 Calder Cup Playoff games, recording two assists, and is a minus-three.
