This morning, it was announced that AHL forward Joona Koppanen is signing overseas to play with Lulea HF in the Swedish Hockey League. Koppanen, this past season, played in 44 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and had 25 points on eight goals and seven assists. He was a _22 with 12 penalty minutes. In 15 Calder Cup Playoff games, he had four points on two goals and two assists. He was a minus-one with 24 penalty minutes.

The Boston Bruins drafted Koppanen with the 135th pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He spent six seasons in Providence, where in 245 games he had 93 points on 39 goals and 54 assists. He was a +29 with six power-play goals, three shorthanded goals, and five game-winning goals. In six Calder Cup Playoff games in Providence, he had three assists and was a plus-one. He appeared in five career games with Boston, recording an assist. He was even in plus/minus.

Over the last three seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he’s played in 158 games, recording 69 points on 22 goals and 47 assists. He was a +25 with a power-play goal, three shorthanded goals, and three game-winning goals. In 17 Calder Cup Playoff games, he had four points on two goals and two assists and was a minus-four. He did play in 28 games for Pittsburgh, recording a goal and an assist. He was a minus-five.

Koppanen appeared in 403 AHL games over nine seasons, recording 162 points on 61 goals and 101 assists. He was a +54 with seven power-play goals, six shorthanded goals, and eight game-winning goals. In 23 career Calder Cup Playoff games, he had seven points on two goals and five assists, and was a minus-three. In 33 career NHL games, he had three points on a goal and two assists and was a minus-five.
