The Philadelphia Flyers this morning announced that defenseman Ethan Samson has an upper-body injury. Samson will be out 6-8 weeks. They also announced that defenseman Oliver Bonk, forward Karsen Dorwart, and Lane Pederson are still day-to-day, also with upper-body injuries. Samson, in 69 games last season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, had 24 points on 12 goals and 12 assists. He was a -12 with four power-play points, a game-winning goal, and 40 penalty minutes. In seven Calder Cup Playoff games, he didn’t record a point. He was a plus-three with eight penalty minutes. Samson will likely be back at some point in November when the Phantoms have 11 games.

The 23-year-old defenseman was drafted 174th in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Samson spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Prince George Cougars. He combined to play in 211 games over that time, recording 122 points on 36 goals and 86 assists. Samson was a -19 with 153 penalty minutes. He also played in 14 playoff games, recording five assists. He was a minus-three with eight penalty minutes. In his first season with the Phantoms in 2023-24, he played in 63 games, recording 12 points on three goals and nine assists. He was a minus-seven. In two playoff games that season, he finished as a minus-one.
