The Toronto Marlies today saw their 24-year-old defenseman Mikko Kokkonen sign overseas. Kokkonen signed with Linköping HC of the Swedish Hockey League today. He played in 50 games with the Marlies this past season, recording 14 points on three goals and 11 assists. He was a plus-two with a game-winning goal and 22 penalty minutes. In two Calder Cup Playoff games, he was a plus-one.

The Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Kokkonen 84th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Marlies in 2020-21 after 50 games with Jukurit in Liiga. In those 50 games before heading to the AHL, he had ten points, on a goal and nine assists. He was a -17 with 20 penalty minutes. Kokkonen played in 11 games with the Marlies, recording seven points on a goal and six assists. He was a minus-two. In 2021-22, he played with the Pelicans in Liiga. In 58 games, he had 15 points on a goal and 14 assists. He was a minus-seven with 20 penalty minutes.
The following season, he went back to the AHL, playing in 36 games with the Marlies. He had six assists and finished as a minus-one with 26 penalty minutes. Kokkonen also appeared in eight games for the Newfoundland Growlers, recording three points on a goal and two assists. He was a plus-five with a game-winning goal and six penalty minutes. Kokkonen also played in 13 Kelly Cup Playoff games, recording nine points on three goals and six assists. He was a plus-three with ten penalty minutes. In 2023-24, he played in 65 games with the Marlies, recording 19 points on five goals and 14 assists. He was a plus-nine with 28 penalty minutes. In three Calder Cup Playoff games, he had an assist and was a minus-one.
