The Providence Bruins welcomed the Lehigh Valley Phantoms tonight to Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, RI. Providence entered the game suffering their second loss of the season as they were shut out by the Laval Rocket. The Phantoms are coming off a 4-2 win over Rochester on Wednesday. The win snapped a two-game losing streak. Simon Zajicek got the start in goal for the Bruins bringing in a 5-1-0 record with a 1.56 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage. Aleksei Kolosov got the start for the Phantoms posting a 6-2-1 record with a 2.35 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage, and a shutout.

Providence got the scoring started early as Jake Schmaltz netted his second of the year. It didn’t take long for the Phantoms to answer back as Karsen Dorwart scored his fourth of the season under two minutes later. The Dorwart goal came on the power play. The Bruins got a power play goal of their own in the opening period as the captain Patrick Brown scored his seventh goal of the season to make it 2-1. Lehigh Valley had two more power plays but couldn’t score on the man advantage. Both teams had 11 shots on goal.
The middle period saw Providence have another power-play chance but they failed to convert. Both teams had just two shots on goal apiece halfway through the period. Neither team scored, as the Phantoms and Providence combined for 9 shots on goal, with the Phantoms outshooting Providence 5-4.
In the final period, Providence added to its lead as Jacob Perreault scored his first goal as a Bruin in his first game. Just over two minutes left in the game and the Phantoms got a goal back when Anthony Richard scored his fifth of the year. It wasn’t enough as Providence secured the win. The Phantoms outshot the Bruins in the final period 16-8.
Zajicek stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced to earn third star honors. Kolosov stopped all 20 of the 23 shots he faced. Victor Soderstrom was named the first star and Perreault was named the second star
The Bruins return to the ice tomorrow against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Amica Mutual Pavilion with puck drop set for 7:05 PM EST. The Phantoms’ next game is tomorrow night at the Hartford Wolf Pack at 6:00 PM EST.
