The Providence Bruins suffered their first loss of the season last night to the Bears. This afternoon, they responded and took it out on the Checkers with a 5-2 win. They improved to 8-1-0-0 while the Checkers dropped to 4-4-1-0.
The first period was the most chaotic of this game. The Bruins got on the board first as John Farinacci scored just under six minutes into the game. It was his first of the season. The Checkers would knot things up with under six minutes left in the period as Nolan Foote scored his second of the game. The Checkes took the lead just 15 seconds later as Riese Gaber scored an unassisted goal; it was his second goal of the year. The Bruins would tie things up with under three minutes left in the period as Patrick Brown scored his fifth of the year. Providence outshot Charlotte 13-10.
The Bruins took the lead in the middle period as Riley Tufte added his sixth goal of the season. Both teams had eight shots on goal in the period.
The Bruins added to their lead as Fabian Lysell scored just over ten minutes into the period with his fifth of the season. Later in the final period, the Bruins scored again as Tufte added to his team lead in goals with his seventh of the season. That goal came on an empty net, and Providence won 5-2.
Michael DiPietro got the start in net for Providence, and he stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced in the win. DiPietro improved to 5-0-0 on the season with a 2.40 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. Kirill Gerasimyuk got the start for Charlotte, stopping 30 of the 34 shots he faced but dropped to 0-1-0 with a 3.30 goals-against average and an .878 save percentage. Tufte finished as the number one star with his two goals and one assist on the night. Alex Steeves finished as the second star with two assists. The Providence captain, Patrick Brown, finished as the third star with a goal and an assist.
The Bruins head to Cleveland next to face the Monsters on Friday and Saturday night. The Checkers have a home series next weekend against the Syracuse Crunch on Friday and Saturday night.
