The Springfield Thunderbirds will face the Providence Bruins this afternoon. The Thunderbirds will be a little shorthanded, so they needed to make some roster moves ahead of today’s game. Springfield’s newly acquired defenseman Wyatt Newpower was suspended for two games for kneeing in last night’s game. Needing a defenseman, the Thunderbirds have signed defenseman Lachlan Getz from Holy Cross to an Amateur Tryout (ATO) today. Getz will make his debut today. The Thunderbirds are also dealing with some bumps and bruises, along with some illnesses. They signed called-up Anthony Romano from the ECHL, where he was playing with the Florida Everblades. He led Florida with 53 points in 55 games.

Lachlan Getz

Getz, this season in 32 games, had five assists, and he was a plus-ten. In his first collegiate season, he played at Boston University, where in 16 games he was pointless and was a plus-two. He then transferred to Michigan Tech, where in 28 games he had a goal and two assists, and he was a minus-three. In his first season at Holy Cross, he had eight seasons and finished as a plus-five.

Anthony Romano

Romano is in his first season in the ECHL. The 53 points have come on 21 goals and 32 assists. He’s a +21 with 6 power-play goals, three shorthanded goals, and two game-winning goals. Romano has AHL experience previously playing with the Texas Stars, where in 46 games he has nine points on three goals, six assists, and he was a minus-seven.
