Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Thursday that winger Arthur Kaliyev has signed a 25-game professional tryout deal with the Iowa Wild, the top-level American Hockey League affiliate of the Minnesota Wild.

Kaliyev, 25, spent the 2025-26 season in the Ottawa Senators organization. The 6’2″ right wing played primarily with the AHL’s Belleville Senators, scoring 40 goals and 68 points in 70 games; he also appeared in two NHL games with Ottawa, recording one assist.

Friedman noted Thursday that Kaliyev “wants to get back playing” after going unsigned as a free agent over the summer. Iowa, his new team, currently sits in fifth place in the AHL’s Central Division with a 3-5-1-1 record through 10 games.

A product of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Kaliyev made his NHL debut with the Los Angeles Kings in the 2020-21 season after being selected by the club in the second round (No. 33 overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. Kaliyev previously starred with the OHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs for three seasons, helping them win a league championship in 2018.

Kaliyev began his NHL career with parts of four seasons in Los Angeles, topping out with 28 points (13 goals, 15 assists) in 56 games with the Kings in 2022-23. But after starting the 2024-25 campaign with the AHL’s Ontario Reign, Kaliyev never played another game with the Kings and was claimed off waivers by the New York Rangers midway through the season.

Kaliyev appeared in 14 games with the Rangers to finish the 2024-25 season, collecting three goals and an assist. The Rangers opted not to retain Kaliyev as a pending free agent, opening the door for him to sign with the Senators organization as on July 2, 2025.

In 204 career NHL games over parts of six seasons with the Kings, Rangers, and Senators, Kaliyev has collected 38 goals and 76 points. He’s also appeared in nine playoff contests with the Kings in 2022 and 2023, being held without a point.
