Alex Ovechkin's chase for history is now over after an incredible run, and in honour of making NHL history, he's had an incredible custom suit made.
For the entirety of the 2024/25 season, the NHL has been following along as Alex Ovechkin looked to chase Wayne Gretzky's goal scoring record, and over the weekend, he finally tallied 895 as he now stands alone in NHL history.
The celebrations were fun and they were epic, with the game stopping to honour The Great 8, and afterwards those celebrations continued as the 39-year old superstar finally got to relax and enjoy his place in league history.
Now, with more celebrations to come, with the team set to honour him at home before his next game, Ovi has revealed an incredible suit that he has had made for the moment, with the details showing just how much this means to the Capitals captain.
On the inside of the suit is puck tape with the number and team of every single goal he has scored, culminating with the NYI 895 on a day that will be forever remembered in NHL history.
Then, there's the great portrait of Ovechkin in the back of the suit as well as an embroidered 'GR895' on the neck of the suit, with no expenses and no details spared for his incredible, one-of-a-kind suit that shows just how much this means to Ovechkin.
Once this celebration ahead of the teams next game on Thursday is over, all attention in Washington will turn to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and a potential matchup with the Montreal Canadiens, but for now, given how much he's had to grind for the past two decades, it's easy to see why Ovechkin and the team are soaking in this incredible record from an incredible player.
