Alex Ovechkin has made history this season, and while some expect him to walk away soon, he's now addressed the hot-button topic of his future in the NHL.

The NHL world has been fixated on Alex Ovechkin chasing down Wayne Gretzky's record, and now that he's officially become the NHL's all-time goal scoring leader, questions have arisen over his future.

Comments made by Ovechkin in the past suggested that as soon as he passed the record he was done, and with his contract up after 2025/26 where he'll be 40-years of age, many believe his time in the league is coming to an end.

That is of course true, but just how soon will it come to an end? Ovechkin was recently asked that question, and while he didn't give a specific date, he addressed the possibility that he could walk away from the league soon.

'I love being around the boys. As long as I can, I'll try to stick around in NHL.'

Ovechkin's love of being around the boys in the locker room has been on full display in recent times, especially with rookie Ryan Leonard who he appears to be bonding with, and according to The Great 8, he's ready to continue playing on for a while yet.

2024/25 may ultimately end up being an outlier for Ovechkin, as he may regress as he hits age 40 and move on after next season, but as of right now, there isn't a timeline in the Russian stars head.

Given how fun Ovechkin has been this year and every year of his NHL career, many fans would love to see him play on as long as possible, and if he's still producing, don't expect him to go anywhere soon, and perhaps he may even look to chase down a ridiculous 1,000 career regular season goals.
