Dallas Stars defenseman Alex Petrovic's fate has been confirmed the day after he was placed on waivers shortly after their elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Dallas Stars waived defenseman Alex Petrovic shortly after their elimination from the WCF by the Edmonton Oilers.

Petrovic had played for the Stars sparingly during the regular season, spending most of his time with the AHL's Texas Stars before eventually playing in 17 postseason games, becoming somewhat of an unsung hero for Dallas.

24 hours after he was placed on waivers, there had been no takers; he was the assigned back to the Texas Stars, who are currently competing in the AHL playoffs.

Petrovic, who has spent the majority of his career in the AHL, scored the GWG for the Stars in Game 3 against the Winnipeg Jets in the second round.

It was his 2nd career postseason goal, having previously scored for the Panthers against the New York Islanders in the 2016 postseason.

He also wasn't shy whatsoever about throwing his weight around and punishing the opposition physically.

Petrovic admitted during the postseason that playing in the AHL can wear on him but that his foray into the NHL makes it worth the wait.

You're grinding down there, bus trips, commercial flights, everything. It's tough, but I think it humbles you a bit and kind of teaches you what's more important.

Having played for the Florida Panthers, Oilers and Stars in his NHL career, Petrovic has 50 points (5G, 45A) in 269 games.
