New Jersey Devils introduce Mark Recchi as assistant coach

Less than a month after Mark Recchi was among three Pittsburgh assistant coaches who did not have their contracts renewed following the Penguins' disappointing early postseason exit at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens, the New Jersey Devils officially introduced him as a new assistant.

Recchi, who won three Stanley Cup titles as a player, will see some familiar faces in his new NHL home. As noted by Catherine Bogart of the team's official website, Recchi played alongside fellow assistant Alain Nasreddine, and the two spent time together with the Penguins after Pittsburgh hired Recchi as a player development coach in July 2014.

Current New Jersey general manager and executive vice president Tom Fitzgerald had worked as assistant general manager in Pittsburgh until he joined the Devils in July 2015.

"We are extremely excited to add Mark to our coaching staff, where his experience as a player, coach, and in development will be invaluable," Fitzgerald said on Tuesday.

"His work with the power play and managing personnel in Pittsburgh are skills that will benefit our group moving forward. Mark's leadership, communication abilities, patience and presence will be integral for the growth of our young core."
