Here's a list of notable events on January 8 in Chicago Blackhawks history.
2003: Dueling Shutouts
It was all goalies when the Blackhawks hosted the Arizona Coyotes on January 8, 2003.
The Blackhawks fired 40 shots on goal, all of which were stopped by Coyotes' netminder Zac Bierk. At the other end of the ice, Chicago goalie Michael Leighton stopped all 31 shots the Coyotes threw his way.
The contest ended in a 0-0 tie, and it was the first time in NHL history that two goalies recorded their first career shutouts in the same game.
2023: Lukas Reichel Scores First NHL Goal
The 2022-23 season saw Lukas Reichel split time between the AHL and NHL as he continued his development. On January 8, 2023, he broke through for the Blackhawks by scoring his first NHL goal.
