Matias Maccelli has a new contract to remain in the desert. Maccelli has signed a deal for the next three years  and has an AAV of $3.425 million. He is now part of the young group they have in place. Maccelli has established himself as a core piece moving forward.

Maccelli Has New Contract in Arizona

Matias Machelli earned himself a new contract. After being selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Draft, he exploded onto the scene. In fact, he was a major bright spot for the team this season. Maccelli played 23 games the season prior and only managed six points that year. However, this season is where he made his mark on the hockey mountain. Maccelli went on to score 11 goals, 38 assists, and 49 points.

The promotion made sense for the player. Last season with the Tuscon Roadrunners, he popped off for 14 goals and 57 points in 47 games. He transitioned that level of play into the big club and became one of the top producers. There was not a lot of excitement for the club, but Maccelli was a bright spot in a dark situation.

What This Contract Means for Arizona

Matias Maccelli earned his contract. He performed well at the big-league level. There will be growing pains for the franchise. The odds of relocation are high, but as for the players themselves, there is room for optimism. Mullet Arena was a fun time, but so is watching the young talent that is on this roster. There is a plethora of young talent in Arizona with Clayton Keller and Karel Vejmelka. Not to mention guys like Maccelli and Dylan Guenther help as building blocks. Logan Cooley is not too far away. Regardless of where the team plays hockey, this team can be fun going forward.
