Arniel Provides Injury Updates on Four Players, Salomonsson Recalled

The Winnipeg Jets are headed back to the farm to add depth to their defensive core. Neal Pionk, Colin Miller, and Haydn Fleury are all listed as week-to-week for the Winnipeg Jets per head coach Scott Arniel.

Miller and Fleury were originally listed as day-to-day, but that changed after today’s practice when Arniel provided the update.

With Miller and Fleury’s injury prompting Isaak Phillips’ recall, Elias Salomonsson gets his second look at the NHL level after Pionk was listed week-to-week.

Pionk, who wasn’t a participant in the Winnipeg Jets’ morning skate yesterday, played 20:21 and posted one assist in the Jets’ 5-4 winning effort against the New York Islanders. Arniel noted that Pionk “wasn’t feeling right” in last night’s game, and today the team learned of the development.

It was clear at last night’s game that Pionk isn’t playing at 100%, and Arniel mentioned that “it’s been going on, and then he fell last night and kind of reaggravated it.”

The Jets get a good look at the defensive depth they have down with the Manitoba Moose, as Isaak Phillips will likely make his Winnipeg Jets debut. Elias Salomonsson’s second NHL run of the season is a good chance for the Jets to evaluate what he can do at the NHL level.

Additionally, Morgan Barron shed his non-contact jersey today in the Jets’ practice. Arniel mentioned today that the team will check in with Barron tomorrow, given that he’s an option to play in the Central Division clash against the Minnesota Wild.

The Jets, who are on a three-game winning streak, get to inject Barron back into the lineup, and it will provide a massive boost to the lineup as the Jets look to salvage their season.

Given that the Jets have consistently healthy-scratched Gustav Nyquist for the past four games, it sparks debate on who comes out of the lineup, or if Danny Zhilkin is sent back to the Moose to provide room for Barron if he’s ready to go.
