Auston Matthews Leaves Game Against Ducks

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks are facing off tonight. Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews left the game after a knee-on-knee hit with Ducks defenseman Radko Gudas. Gudas was given five minutes for kneeing and a game misconduct for the play. Matthews sustained an injury to his left knee and it didn’t look good. He had a goal tonight as the game is currently 4-3 in the third period. Matthews entering tonight had 52 points on 26 goals and 26 assists. He is a minus-four with four power play goals.

The Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Matthews first overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He made his debut on October 12, 2016. He scored four goals in that game. Matthews finished his rookie season played in all 82 games, recording 69 points on 40 goals and 29 assists. Matthews was a plus-two with eight power-play goals and eight game-winning goals. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy that season as well. In 688 career games, he has 779 points on 427 goals and 352 assists. Matthews is a career +147 with 108 power-play goals, two shorthanded goals, and 66 game-winning goals. Matthews is a three-time Rocket Richard trophy winner and won the Hart Trophy in 2021-22.
