Avalanche Cut Former First Rounder, Trim Roster More

On Wednesday morning, the Colorado Avalanche trimmed their roster a little bit more, sending former first round pick Oskar Olausson down to the Colorado Eagles. He wasn’t the only player sent down, as four other players have been demoted, including a few who performed well in the preseason.

The moves are one more step in the process, as the Avalanche inch closer to putting together their opening night lineup.

Olausson is someone the organization can feel much better about after the camp and preseason he had. Jared Bednar praised him multiple times for the improvements he made over the summer, and Olausson told me he wants to have a much better year in the AHL.

“I feel like I kind of want to be more productive player in the AHL, and be more dominant ever game,” he said. “Be consistent, and hopefully get some games up here too.”

The other four players demoted were Ondrej Pavel, Trent Miner, Nate Clurman, and Peter Holland.

Holland has agreed to go to camp with the Eagles, and we’ll see from there if he is able to earn an AHL or NHL contract. Pavel was able to get into one preseason game, and performed well, scoring the only goal of the game for the Avalanche.

Clurman is the interesting one, and made the biggest jump of everyone over the last year. It wouldn’t surprise me if he gets a few NHL games this season.

There are still plenty more moves to make, as the roster still sits at 36 with just one preseason game remaining.
