The Colorado Avalanche have had a fantastic start to the 2026-27 NHL season. Colorado is looking to build upon its phenomenal 2025-26 regular season performance. So far, they’ve picked up big wins. But head coach Jared Bednar is happy with simply winning.
The Avalanche came away with a big win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday. Colorado needed a rally after a bit of a sluggish start. After the game, Bednar made a tough admission regarding how the team has to continuously claw back into games.
“I’m convinced our guys know what makes us successful as a team, but we’re just having a tough time right now putting together a full 60,” Bednar said, via NHL.com. “But when we decide to play and play the right way with the right level of, for me it’s intensity and discipline, then we’re a really good team, and we’re playing well. We just we have to find a way to just get it there for 60 minutes.”
The Avalanche have not been able to string together wins as of late. As a matter of fact, they haven’t strung together any consistent results. Colorado has alternated wins and losses in each of its last seven games, as NHL.com points out.
Colorado fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but was able to storm back after the opening frame. The Avalanche scored five unanswered goals to make it a 5-2 victory at the end of the night.
Colorado will need to find a way to start games on time with some consistency. They have a chance to win their second straight on Monday when they face the winless Philadelphia Flyers.
