Barstool Sports, NHL Media Personality Assaulted By 6 Men At Restaurant

Former NHL forward and current Barstool Sports and Turner Sports media personality Paul Bissonnette had an eventful Sunday night in Scottsdale, Arizona.

According to Scottsdale police, Bissonnette was assaulted by six men at a Houston's restaurant around 7:30 p.m. local time last night. Bissonnette, 39, who played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Arizona Coyotes from 2008-14, was apparently attempting to be a peacemaker when things went awry.

"There was an altercation inside the restaurant with six adult men and the management. Reportedly, Paul Bissonnette tried to help management calm the men and get them to leave. The situation escalated to the men assaulting Paul Bissonnette both inside and outside of the restaurant," Scottsdale Police Sgt. Allison Sempsis said, via FOX 10 Phoenix.

The six men who assaulted Bissonnette were all arrested and accused of assault and disorderly conduct. Bissonnette was taken to the hospital, but the details of his injuries are unknown.

Bissonnette joined Barstool Sports' Spittin' Chiclets podcast with former Pittsburgh teammate Ryan Whitney in 2018. He also became part of Turner Sports' NHL coverage in 2021.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy shared a text exchange with Bissonnette in which he confirms the Scottsdale incident.

"Just saw a story saying you got jumped. Are you okay?" Portnoy asked.

"Ya. Took some but gave more. 7 guys," Bissonnette responded.

In 202 career NHL games, Bissonnette scored seven goals and dished out 15 assists. He also appeared in four playoff contests with the Coyotes in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

Perhaps the men who attacked the former left winger were Boston Bruins fans who were upset that Bissonnette said the team was "dead" the other day.

We'll see if there are any more details regarding the incident in the coming days.
