Team Canada has suffered a major setback ahead of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, with forward Brayden Point ruled out due to injury. Point has been sidelined since January 12 . The injury occurred during the Tampa Bay Lightning’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL.
The Lightning placed him on injured reserve on January 16 before moving him to long-term injured reserve earlier this week.

Although Point did take part in the team’s optional morning skate on Thursday, it became clear he was not at 100 percent. While there was hope he could recover in time, the medical staff and Hockey Canada ultimately decided not to risk it. Before the injury, Point had recorded 30 points this season, including 11 goals and 19 assists in 37 games.
As a result, Point will be replaced on the roster by Seth Jarvis of the Carolina Hurricanes. Jarvis has enjoyed an impressive season and brings strong energy, but he steps into big shoes.

The 24-year-old has posted 43 points this season, scoring 25 goals and adding 18 assists in 48 games, along with a plus-ten rating. Jarvis opened up about getting a call-up for the Winter Olympics and said he got to know about it when he was taking a nap.
“I got a phone call and didn’t answer the first time because I thought, ‘Who is calling now?’ I picked up the second one, thankfully, and they broke the news to me,” Jarvis said.
Meanwhile, Lightning GM Julien BriseBois opened up about both Point and Anthony Cirelli missing the Olympics due to injuries.
“Devastating. Incredible selflessness on his part (and Cirelli’s),” BriseBois said. “They could’ve have pushed to play at less than 100% but showed character of the highest order in giving up their spot to someone healthier and more apt to help Canada win gold.”
Team Canada will open its Olympic campaign against Czechia on February 12 and will be hoping for no further injuries.
