While serving as a “name” in the prospect pipeline and organization for multiple seasons now, many fans are still waiting for another step forward from Landon Slaggert. The former Chicago Blackhawks draft pick has been a decent bottom-six option for a few seasons now, but has not really found a solidified role. He flashed at times in the bottom six under Jeff Blashill last season, but his future on the roster remains in limbo in future seasons.
Landon Slaggert was set to begin the season as a fourth-line contributor on the roster when injury struck during the preseason. Ironically, his injury opened a spot for Ryan Greene to stick on the roster. Rather than struggling and not earning his keep, Ryan Greene had a respectable season, as you can read by our grades here.
Regardless, Slaggert ultimately returned, suiting up for 53 games last season, a career high. However, just three goals and four assists (one more point than the year prior, with 20 more games played) are a rather underwhelming total for Slaggert. Although the Notre Dame product was never heralded as an offensive machine, double-figure points in over 50 games of play would be nice for a team needing to take a step forward in 2026-27. Slaggert also got eight games of work in with the Rockford IceHogs.
One thing Slaggert did well was bring the energy. He was incredibly noticeable at times, especially late in the season. Slaggert contributed 79 hits and 24 blocks, but that might not be enough to stick around in the top 12 forwards next season.
Fine. If I could describe Landon Slaggert’s play this year, it would be just fine. The Notre Dame product tallied seven points in 53 games this season, almost exclusively on the fourth line. While Slaggert has been a young player who has had consistent minutes on this roster, that could quickly change with the incoming talent. You would like to see more offensive production, but not every player is gonna mold and develop perfectly.
While not exactly known for his scoring prowess, Landon Slaggert tallied only seven points in 53 games for the 2025-26 Blackhawks and saw his average TOI decrease by almost two minutes from the season prior. Personally, I would have liked to have seen that point total closer to say 12-15, given the fact that Slaggert was able to tally six points in 33 games just the year prior. There is still room for growth for the former third-round pick, but playing opportunities might start getting harder to come by without more impact on the scoresheet in the near future.
Underwhelming would be a good way to define most of Landon Slaggert’s season. That said, Landon Slaggert filled his fourth-line role admirably. The offense wasn’t necessarily there (seven points in 53 games), but Slaggert brought energy, poise, and some grit to the bottom six. Slaggert’s skill set is something the Blackhawks will need more of, but he will have to continue improving in order to stick in the NHL.
Landon Slaggert has one season remaining at $900 K. If he can’t carve out a consistent role for himself, he could find himself elsewhere. However, there is a reason that Slaggert could stick with a strong 2026-27 season. He brings a lot of attributes that other forwards on the roster do not with his energy and grit. However, there is no guarantee that it will be enough to set another career high in games played next season.
