Blackhawks 2025-26 Player Grades: Teuvo Teravainen

Teuvo Teravainen had a very down season by his standards, recording just 35 points after posting 58 points in his first season back with Chicago. Teravainen played a lot with Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar in his first year, but was largely stuffed in the bottom six due to an influx of new talent. Whether Andre Burakovsky was a better choice on the top line is debatable, but Teravainen’s numbers suffered regardless.

14 goals and 21 assists are still solid totals, but for a player like Teravainen who is one of the top contracts on the team, there wasn’t enough production. Even in a season where Connor Bedard elevated his game when healthy, Teravainen couldn’t benefit from that offensively.

Don’t get it twisted, Teravainen is a helpful player for the Hawks. However, it feels like his role has been filled by other players, making him almost homeless in the lineup. Depending on how the rest of the offseason goes, Teravainen is likely destined for a bottom-six role. That said, its a contract season for “Turbo” and he’ll want to get paid at least one more time.

Player Grades

Blackhawks Cowboy’s Grade: C-

When Teuvo Teravainen signed with the Chicago Blackhawks two years ago expectations were high for him. The prodigal son of 2015 found his way back home and looked to be Connor Bedard’s winger through his first few seasons. The reality has not been far from the plan. Teuvos’ production took a steep decline from 58 to 35 points this season. The offensive slide compounded with his already lackluster defense. It could be worse, as Teuvo still represented his home country, Finland, in the Olympics, where they won Bronze. However, with trade rumours swirling, the writing seems to be on the wall for Teuvo, at least in Chicago.

Tony Marchese’s Grade: D+

It wasn’t the best of seasons for Teuvo, and despite him being personally one of my favorite players on the roster, it was definitely a below-average performance for the veteran who should be expected to put up more points. Going from 58 points the year prior to 35 points this season is not exactly what many are looking for out of Turbo. Unfortunately, that earns him a D+.

Ron Luce’s Grade: C-

It was a down season for Teuvo Teravainen, there is no way around that. Just 35 points in 75 games, Teravainen wasn’t the offensive support that was expected. The 2025-26 season was Teravainen’s worst since 2022-23. Ideally, Teravainen can rebound and be a strong support player in the final year of his three-year contract. However, there is no guarantee that things will be better.

What’s On Tap Next?

Teravainen will need to have an improved season to secure another respectable payday in free agency. Due to the development of the youngsters, Teravainen’s future is likely limited to next season. However, finding a way to provide a lot of depth scoring sets him up well for the next phase of his career.
