With one game remaining on the schedule, the Chicago Blackhawks are sending reinforcements down to their playoff-bound AHL club. On Thursday morning, the team assigned defenseman Alec Regula to the Rockford IceHogs.

Regula recorded one goal in 15 games while averaging 17:53 of ice time per game with the Blackhawks this season. He also has 25 points (four goals, 21 assists) in 40 games for the AHL club.

Splitting time between the NHL and AHL levels allowed Alec Regula to further grow his game this season. With multiple Blackhawks defensemen on expiring contracts, the 21-year-old has seemingly carved out a spot on the blue line for the 2022-23 club. But for now, going back down to Rockford will allow him to gain playoff experience.

The Chicago Blackhawks wrap up their 2021-22 slate Friday night when they visit the Buffalo Sabres. The Rockford IceHogs have two regular-season games remaining before embarking on their quest for the Calder Cup.
