On Friday, the Chicago Blackhawks provided quite the news drop for the media. Following the team’s 4-3 shootout win against the Capitals, the team announced the following news:

As noted by Ben Pope, forward Tyler Johnson will miss three months after undergoing successful surgery on his neck. Johnson hasn’t played since October 29 when he sustained the neck injury against the Carolina Hurricanes. After the team tried to manage his health, surgery was ultimately the best option. The team released the following quote, via Ben Pope, on the situation.

The Blackhawks have been playing well without Johnson, but having his presence in the lineup certainly benefits the team’s depth.

In addition, after taking an awkward hit in Thursday’s win , Connor Murphy is in concussion protocol. The team will monitor Murphy’s health, but there is a good chance he doesn’t play this weekend in New York.

In addition, Jujhar Khaira missed practice on Friday. There doesn’t appear to be a lot of concern, as the team held Khaira out due to a non-COVID-related illness. He’ll likely be good to go on Tuesday at the latest when the team returns home.

The Blackhawks are back in action on Saturday against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM CST.
