On Monday, the Chicago Blackhawks sent forward Philipp Kurashev to the AHL . In return, the team recalled former seventh-round pick Josiah Slavin. On Thursday, Slavin will make his NHL debut against the Washington Capitals.

In another tweet from Mark Lazerus, Slavin will center a line with Ryan Carpenter and Mike Hardman. With the Colorado College product‘s insertion into the lineup, Reese Johnson draws the healthy scratch for the Blackhawks. Another familiar face, Dylan Strome, re-enters the lineup on Thursday as well.

In 15 games with the Rockford IceHogs this season, Slavin has tallied eight points (four goals, four assists). In addition, he added seven points in his first 15 pro games during the COVID-19 shortened AHL season in the spring.

Josiah Slavin will be the second member of the Slavin family to play in the NHL. His older brother, Jaccob, is a staple on the blue line for the Carolina Hurricanes. In addition, Slavin spent time with the USHL’s Chicago Steel, so this will be the second time he plays for a team in the Windy City.

The Blackhawks are in Washington DC to take on the Capitals on Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CST from Capital One Arena.
