The situation around Minnesota Wild star Kirill Kaprizov has captured the entire NHL, with opposing teams watching what happens closely. Kaprizov has reportedly turned down a large contract offer from the Wild, and this has led to all sorts of trade speculation.
The star player could return to the Wild on a different deal, but that all remains up in the air at this point. With the trade rumors going around, many people believe that he could be moved at some point.
NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report put together some landing spots for the Wild star, and the rival Chicago Blackhawks made the cut. Chicago could be an interesting place for Kaprizov, and it could make a lot of sense.
"The Blackhawks have the type of salary cap space that could take on Kaprizov's contract both now and in the future, and they desperately -- DESPERATELY -- need to start building something around Connor Bedard that isn't just a hope and a prayer with all of their prospects trying to learn in the NHL at the same time," wrote Gretz.
The biggest obstacle to any deal for Kaprizov for the Blackhawks would be the willingness of the Wild to send him to a rival. But if Chicago were to offer them the best potential deal, the Minnesota front office may have to consider things.
But Kaprizov could be the missing piece for Chicago to finally get things back on track. The Blackhawks have been trying to build themselves up for a long time, and if they could add a star around Connor Bedard, it could change everything.
Kaprizov is a true game-changer, and it will take a lot for the Wild to actually trade him. But teams like the Blackhawks do make a lot of sense for the All-Star, especially if he is actually available on the trade front.
