Amid a breakout season, Chicago Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson earned a nice payday. The Blackhawks announced Tuesday that Dickinson signed a two-year contract extension that carries a $4.25 million annual salary cap hit.

"Jason adds a unique two-way game to our lineup and his compete level is consistently strong every night,” Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said of Dickinson. “He’s showing his offensive game this year, which has been a huge lift to our team. His leadership has been instrumental, and the impact has been evident around the room, particularly with our young guys. We’re excited to bring him back and to see him continue to grow with our team."
Previously known as a defensive specialist, Dickinson has increased his offensive production in his second season with the Blackhawks. Through 43 games of the 2023-24 campaign, the 28-year-old has 21 points (14 goals, seven assists).
Before joining the Blackhawks, Dickinson had never eclipsed 10 goals in a season. However, Chicago's injury issues this season thrust Dickinson into an elevated role, and he has responded on the score sheet. And with star rookie Connor Bedard on the shelf for 5-7 more weeks, Dickinson could be in line to represent the Blackhawks at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game.
Tough situation here.

NHL needs Bedard there for the publicity but if he can’t play in the event — no matter how lame it may be — Dickinson deserves to represent the #Blackhawks https://t.co/rO6BxlcO2P
The Ontario native has also taken on a leadership role, becoming an alternate captain after the Blackhawks terminated Corey Perry's contract. Dickinson's extension follows fellow alternate captain Nick Foligno inking a new deal on Jan. 12, solidifying the Blackhawks' leadership for seasons to come.
Once thought of as a potential trade candidate, Dickinson will remain in Chicago through the 2025-26 season.
