The Blackhawks enter Thursday's game against Colorado on a two-game winning streak for just the second time this season, but don't think they're going to make it three. And with that in mind, we've got a low-risk, high-reward one-game parlay (OGP) for you on Thursday.
Chicago is still the worst team in the NHL, and you'd be taking a huge risk to bet on the Hawks to win against Colorado. We know the Avalanche have dropped six of their last seven, but still, until the Blackhawks continue to show us they can win consistently, we're going to continue to bet against them. The last time Chicago won three straight games was all the way back in October, and considering the Avalanche are 1-0 against the Blackhawks this season and are better than them not only on paper, but also statistically, we're going to take the Avalanche on the moneyline.
Colorado on the moneyline is the most confident leg of this OGP, and Colorado +1.5 goals on the first-period spread is our least confident. However, we're willing to risk it. Chicago has led by multiple goals after the first period just once in its last seven games, and considering they're last in the league in scoring, we're confident Colorado will trail by no more than a goal after the first intermission. We know Colorado has struggled to get off to a fast start this month, but with the Avalanche nearly averaging a goal per game more than Chicago, and in the top half of the league in goals allowed, it's a chance we're willing to take.
Now that we got that out of the way, let's get back to another leg we're super confident in, and that's for both teams to score at least one goal. The Avalanche have scored at least one goal in 15 straight games and Chicago has scored at least one goal in six straight and 13 of their last 14. You can certainly make the argument this should be the most confident leg of our OGP, but we just don't trust the Blackhawks on the moneyline — heck, who does? — and are unwilling to give them the benefit of the doubt.
As for the final leg of our OGP, take the under of 2.5 total goals in the first period. Do I need to remind you that Chicago is last in the league in scoring and Colorado hasn't scored more than a goal in the first period in 19 of their last 20 games? Talk about a slow starting group. But, hey. You're not going to hear us complain. And considering Chicago has scored two or more goals in the first period just once in its last seven games, we're confident neither team scores more than a goal apiece in the first period.
The OGP: Avalanche over Blackhawks, under 2.5 total goals in first period, each team over 0.5 goals & Avalanche +1.5 (first period spread) (+120 odds via BetMGM)
