Lundestrom’s placement on IR is retroactive to Dec. 27, when he suffered a lower-body injury during practice. It comes a day after the 26-year-old was ruled out week-to-week due to the aforementioned ailment.
The injury kept Lundstrom out for the Blue Jackets’ game on Sunday against the New York Islanders, as well as Monday’s clash with the Ottawa Senators. Columbus came away with a 4-2 victory over the Isles before beating up the Senators, 4-1, giving CBJ three wins in a row.
Per the NHL’s IR rules, Lundestrom isn’t eligible to return to the lineup until Sunday, when the Jackets play host to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Gallivare, Sweden native hasn’t played since Columbus’ 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Dec. 22, the team’s last contest prior to the holiday break. He had missed just one game prior to his most recent injury.
In 35 games, Lundestrom has scored a goal and four assists for five points, though his name hasn’t found the scoresheet since potting a goal and an assist against the Florida Panthers on Dec. 6. He has a plus/minus of -5 while registering 12:22 of ice time, a little down from his time on ice with the Anaheim Ducks over the past few years.
Mayo has played in one game this season for the Blue Jackets, that coming back on Nov. 5 against the Calgary Flames. It was the Victoria, B.C. native’s first NHL experience since the 2022-23 campaign, when he was a member of the Arizona Coyotes. In 19 games with the Monsters, he has potted two goals and five assists for seven points.
In 83 career NHL contests, Mayo has notched four goals and eight assists for 12 points.
The Blue Jackets (17-15-6) are last in the Eastern Conference, four points out of a Wild Card spot. They are next scheduled to face the New Jersey Devils on New Year’s Eve.
