Blue Jackets sign Colton White to two-year contract

Waddell mentioned that White has a select set of skills and intangibles that will be useful in the organization.

“Colton is a hard-working, reliable defenseman who is positionally sound and moves the puck well,” Waddell said in a release. “He brings valuable experience and depth to our organization, and we’re pleased to welcome him to the Blue Jackets.”

White comes to the Blue Jackets system after spending the 2025-26 season with the New Jersey Devils organization. The 29-year-old appeared in 23 games with New Jersey, registering four assists and a plus/minus of +2, while averaging 12:15 of ice time per game. He also played 30 games for the Devils’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Utica Comets, scoring a goal and six assists for seven points, with a career-high +11 rating.

It was the second year in the second stint White had in the Devils system. He was originally taken by New Jersey in the fourth round, 97th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft. He spent most of the first five years of his pro career with the club’s minor-league affiliates before signing with the Anaheim Ducks in July 2022. He returned to the team on a two-year contract in July 2024. That deal had an AAV of $775,000, with AHL cap hits of $250,000 and $275,000, respectively.

In 107 NHL contests, White has posted 14 assists. In 345 AHL contests, he has notched 21 goals and 77 assists for 98 points.
