Blues’ Gameday Preview: Habs Visit In Homestand’s Latest Matchup
St. Louis Blues Gameday Preview (The Hockey Writers)

It is the final week of October. The first month of the regular season is coming to a close. For the St. Louis Blues, their five-game homestand is also wrapping up. They have two more games to go before they hit the road again. It is time for a Blues’ Gameday Preview. The Blues host the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.

Blues’ Gameday Preview: Blues vs. Canadiens

Tuesday is the first meeting of the season between the two teams. In 2025-26, the Blues won both games to sweep the season series. The Blues have not lost the season series in three seasons. However, the Habs lead the all-time series, 93-41-22-2. This includes the 1968 and 1969 Stanley Cup Final, in which the Canadiens swept the Blues each time.

Last Game: Shut Out by the Champs

The Blues fell in their last game on Saturday, 4-0. The defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes certainly came ready to play. It was the Blues’ first shutout this season. The shutout also ended a five-game streak in which they have scored a power-play goal.

Projected Lineup (Subject to Change)

Blues’ Team Leaders

McTavish and Holloway are tied for the lead with 10 points. McTavish and Snuggerud are tied for the lead in goals with six. Holloway leads in assists with seven. Carlo leads with 19 penalty minutes. Lastly, Barron leads with a plus-5 rating.

In goal, Hofer leads with four wins, a 2.40 goals-against average (GAA), and a .917 save percentage (SV%).

Storyline #1: Goals, Goals, Goals

The Blues may have been shut out in their last game, but they have been scoring a lot of goals recently. In their 11 games this season, the team has scored three or more goals five times. During this homestand, the Blues have outscored their opponents, 8-3.

The power play has been a major reason for this surge. As mentioned earlier, the Blues had scored a power-play goal in five straight games before Saturday. A power play that had struggled early in the season is now a top-10 unit in the NHL.

Storyline #2: Habs Continue Road Trip

The Canadiens continue their four-game road trip. They are 2-0-0 so far. Their latest was a special one: a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets in the Heritage Classic.

The Blues look to halt the Canadiens’ momentum. In the process, they would also extend their home win streak against Montreal, which currently stands at three games.

Storyline #3: Injuries

Both teams have been bitten by the injury bug this season. The Blues are still without Tyler Tucker, former Canadien Logan Mailloux, and Dillon Dube. Ross Johnston is eligible to return for Tuesday’s game, but we will not know until later in the day.

The Canadiens are without Ivan Demidov, Sam Montembeault, and Nick Suzuki. Demidov and Montembeault could return on Halloween, but Suzuki is not expected back until mid-November.

How to Watch
