Stenberg is one of the organization’s highly touted prospects. He was taken by the Blues 25th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. He burst onto the scene thanks to his work with Frolunda HC in the SHL, as well as standing out at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and 2023 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship, helping Sweden take home the silver medal in each event.
The Stenungsund native made his North American pro debut last season with the Blues’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. In 38 games, he scored five goals and 12 assists for 17 points. Stenberg also played 25 games on loan with the Malmö Redhawks, posting six points.
This season in Springfield, Stenberg has notched three goals and five assists for eight points.
Montgomery also revealed that forward Jonatan Berggren will be in the lineup on Wednesday. It will be his first game with his new team, as the Blues claimed the Swedish winger off waivers from the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Berggren has netted two goals and four assists for six points in his first 15 appearances with the Red Wings this year.
The Blues (12-15-7) sit seventh in the Central Division, six points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
