Blues place Dylan Holloway on injured reserve

The Blues also recalled recalled forwards Matt Luff and Hugh McGing from the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds.

Holloway, 24, has played in just one of St. Louis’ last 20 games while dealing with his right ankle injury. In just 34 games played this season, the Calgary native has eight goals and nine assists for 17 points.

Initially selected 14th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Holloway spent two underwhelming seasons in Edmonton before becoming a restricted free agent prior to last season. The Blues tendered him an offer of a two-year, $4.58 deal, which the Oilers declined to match. Holloway went on to have a break-out campaign for St. Louis last season, putting up 26 goals and 37 assists for 63 points in 77 games.

Luff, 28, has a goal in five games played for the Blues this season. He’s performed well with Springfield, notching 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points in 33 games.

McGing, 27, has a goal and an assist in three games for St. Louis this season. His AHL numbers have been less impressive than Luff’s, as he’s registered four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 35 games with the Thunderbirds.

St. Louis is dealing with significant uncertainty regarding which players will be able to suit up for Thursday’s home game against the Florida Panthers. Forwards Jordan Kyrou, Jake Neighbours, and Oskar Sundqvist will all be game-time decisions.

The availability of these players will determine whether Luff, McGing, or both draw into St. Louis’ lineup. The Blues, who rank dead last in the NHL with 2.43 goals scored per game, need as much help up front as they can get.

After taking on the Panthers, St. Louis will wrap up a four-game homestand against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
