Blues place Logan Mailloux, Tyler Tucker on injured reserve

The St. Louis Blues placed a pair of defensemen on the injured reserve list Monday as they continue to pare down their roster ahead of opening day.

The Blues officially announced that Logan Mailloux will be re-evaluated in eight weeks after undergoing successful surgery on his right hand. Additionally, Tyler Tucker is considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

St. Louis already addressed their depleted defensive group on Sunday by claiming Justin Barron off waivers from the Nashville Predators. With timelines now established for both Mailloux and Tucker, it remains to be seen whether the Blues will make any further transactions prior to Monday’s 5:00 p.m. ET season-opening roster deadline.

Mailloux, 23, sustained the hand injury during a fight with Chicago Blackhawks forward Cole Smith in the first period of Saturday’s preseason game at the United Center. The 6’3″ right-shot defender dropped the gloves in response to Smith sticking out his knee at Philip Broberg in open ice.

Tucker, 26, is currently sidelined with a knee injury. Blues general manager Alex Steen told reporters Monday that the 6’1″ lefty is currently seeking a second opinion on the injury and has been designated week-to-week in the interim.

With both Mailloux and Tucker on IR, the Blues appear to be going with the sextet of Colton Parayko, Cam Fowler, Brandon Carlo, Broberg, Barron, and rookie Theo Lindstein on defense to start the 2026-27 regular season. If they so choose, they could also recall any of Calle Rosen, Marc-Andre Gaudet, or Adam Jiricek to serve as their seventh defenseman out of the gate; they could also claim another defenseman off the waiver wire on Monday.

The Blues are slated to kick off the 2026-27 campaign on Oct. 2 when they visit the Dallas Stars. After playing their first three games on the road, they’ll return to the Enterprise Center for their home opener against the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 8.
