According to multiple reports, the St. Louis Blues placed veteran defenseman Nick Leddy on the waiver wire on Wednesday.

Per NHL insider Frank Seravalli, Leddy and the Blues had been working on finding a destination for him where he could get more playing time in a trade.

With no trade worked out, the team is hoping that someone will pick Leddy up at no cost via the waiver wire.

The American defenseman has one year remaining on his current contract with a price tag of $4 million.

At 34 years of age, Leddy appeared in 31 games this past regular season, averaging 18:40 of time on ice while scoring two goals and dishing out three assists for five points to go with a plus-6 rating.

As recently as the 2023-2024 campaign, Leddy was a viable contributor to the Blues, as he skated in all 82 games, produced 28 points, posted a plus-14 and logged an average of 22:22 on the ice per game.

Leddy crossed the 1,000-game milestone in that season. For his career, he’s appeared in 1,042 games, scoring 75 goals and tallying 341 assists for a total of 416 points.

Leddy became a Stanley Cup champion in 2013 as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks.

The No. 16 overall pick by the Minnesota Wild in the 2009 NHL entry draft, Leddy has also spent time with the New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings.

If Leddy is claimed, St. Louis would get the remaining $4 million off its books. According to PuckPedia, the team has just $663,484 of cap space as of the afternoon of July 2, though that is without Torey Krug being placed on LTIR.

The Blues’ defensive unit is comprised of Justin Faulk, Colton Parayko, Philip Broberg, Cam Fowler, Tyler Tucker, Logan Mailloux and Leddy.

Of that group, only Faulk, Parayko and Tucker are signed beyond this season.
