The St. Louis Blues have rewarded their AHL leading scorer. After starting the year with seven points in six games, forward Aleksanteri Kaskimaki has been recalled to the top club. This is just the second time in his three-year career that Kaskimaki has been recalled to the NHL mid-season. He played in five games with the Blues during the 2025-26 season, recording no scoring and a minus-six.

Kaskimaki’s NHL debut came in the midst of turnover in St. Louis, with multiple rookies stepping into the lineup as the Blues searched for a spark. The conditions should be much more supportive this time around. St. Louis’ offense has the 14th-most goals to start the season (27) and has clear lineup holes after an injury to Alexei Toropchenko. Kaskimaki could move seamlessly into the fourth-line, left-wing role next to Pius Suter and Dylan Peterson. That role would offer routine minutes, on a line that would uplift Kaskimaki as a play-driver, after St. Louis operated with only 11 forwards in their latest outing.

There is a path towards an even greater role, depending on how the Blues choose to test the 22-year-old Finn. Kaskimaki has rotated between the winger and center positions throughout his pro career – dating back to his time in Finland. He could be an interesting option down the middle, offering St. Louis some respite from a bottom-six tandem of Suter and Dalibor Dvorsky. Adding another spark to the center depth could go far in securing Kaskimaki’s full-time role in the NHL lineup. First, he’ll look to make a spark in his first game back at the top level – likely Tuesday’s matchup against the Winnipeg Jets.
