The Blues have made a pair of roster moves late in the day. The team announced that they have recalled forward Otto Stenberg from AHL Springfield. To make room on the roster, winger Ross Johnston was placed on injured reserve.
Stenberg was a first-round pick by St. Louis back in 2023, going 25th overall out of the junior ranks in Sweden. The 21-year-old made the jump to the SHL level in 2024-25 for his first extended taste of professional action before moving to North America midway through that season.
He split the 2025-26 campaign between the Blues and Thunderbirds. In 32 games with the former, Stenberg held his own with 10 points in 32 games while averaging 13:37 per night of ice time. Meanwhile, in Springfield, he was a bit more productive, notching 17 points, though just four goals, in 37 appearances. This season, Stenberg has played exclusively in the minors, picking up a goal and three helpers in six games in the early going.
As for Johnston, he missed last night’s game due to a lower-body injury. The 32-year-old is in the first season of a three-year, $6MM contract signed in free agency this summer and has one assist and 27 hits through his first six games. He’s officially listed as day-to-day, though he’ll have to miss a week of action due to this placement, which can be backdated to Friday.
This recall keeps the Blues at a full 23-player roster but it also pushes their spending past the $104MM cap ceiling and into LTIR, meaning that they will stop accruing bankable cap space for the time being.
