The St. Louis Blues announced on Monday they’ve signed defenseman Logan Mailloux to a one-year contract extension at a cap hit of $850,000.

Mailloux is in the final year of his three-year entry-level contract with an $875,000 cap hit, which he originally signed in 2022, but saw the contract slide one year while he was in the QMJHL the following season. He was set to become a restricted free agent, with AFP Analytics projecting his next contract to be a three-year contract with an $875,000, so he sees a decrease in both his salary and his term.

The deal is a one-way contract, which means that Mailloux’s $850,000 cap hit will carry over if he is sent down to the AHL. It’ll be the first one-way contract of his career, as an entry-level contract is always a two-way contract.

Mailloux has, to this point, played in a full-time role in the NHL for the first time in his career, and has one goal and one assist for two points in 31 games this season. He’s also struggled defensively so far this year with a 0.162 5v5 regularized adjusted plus-minus expected goals against per 60 minutes, which is the 14th-worst among defenders this season.

Mailloux was dealt to the Blues on the first day of free agency in 2025 in a one-for-one trade, with forward Zac Bolduc going to the Montreal Canadiens in return.

With Mailloux re-signed, the Blues have six of their seven defensemen currently on their NHL roster locked up through next season, with only Matthew Kessel left to extend. However, Mailloux joins Justin Faulk and Tyler Tucker as the blueliners which St. Louis will need to re-sign after next season.

The Blues are now projected to have around $19 million in salary cap space heading into the 2026 offseason. They have 10 unrestricted free agents and eight RFAs left to re-sign, highlighted by Dylan Holloway, Mathieu Joseph and Oskar Sundqvist.
