Bold Oilers-Golden Knights Prediction Challenges Wayne Gretzky

The Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights are getting set to begin the second-round playoff series. Many see this matchup as one of the better series in the postseason, with the two teams knowing each other very well.

Edmonton is fresh off a series win over the Los Angeles Kings, so they are feeling very confident. The Oilers are also looking to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals this year after they lost in Game 7 last season.

For the Golden Knights, they want to make a statement against the Oilers. Vegas has been a fairly dominant team since they entered the NHL, but they were bounced in the first round last season.

Heading into the series, many people seem torn on who they believe will win the series. Scott Maxwell of The Daily Faceoff is going with Vegas to win the series in six games.

"Last round, I predicted that the Kings would finally best the Oilers and win a series. I doubted McDavid, Draisaitl and co. and went with the surprise pick, and it burned me. I’ve learned my lesson this time around, right?"

This prediction from Maxwell goes against the pick of NHL legend Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky picked the Oilers to return to the Stanley Cup Finals, so if Maxwell is correct, Gretzky's playoff pick would fall flat.

It can be bold to bet against a legend like Gretzky, but Vegas is a very good team. Edmonton will certainly give them a challenge, but the Golden Knights are being favored to win.

Game 1 between the Oilers and Golden Knights is set to begin on Tuesday, May 6 at 9:30 p.m. ET. The Golden Knights have home-ice advantage, so the game will take place at T-Mobile Arena.
