Boston Bruins Assign Simon Zajicek to Providence

The Boston Bruins are down to three goalies at camp for tonight’s game, as they’ve assigned Simon Zajicek to their AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins. Zajicek is expected to take over the net for Providence, with Michael DiPietro expected to be the backup in Boston. He didn’t appear in any games for Boston during the preseason. He appeared in 21 games for Providence last season. Zajicek went 14-6-1 with a 2.44 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.

Before joining the Bruins, he spent time playing in Czechia. In 2024-25, he appeared in 29 games for HC Litvinov, where he went 15-13-0 with a 2.12 goals-against average, a .930 save percentage, and five shutouts. In three playoff games, he went 1-2-0 with a 2.63 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. He also appeared in two International games, going 2-0-0; he didn’t allow a goal in either game, posting a shutout in both wins.

It is expected that after tonight’s game, Jiri Patera, whom the Bruins signed in the offseason, will be sent to Providence, and Patera, along with Zajicek, will split time for Providence this season, but they also have Luke Cavallin and Max Lundgren as options as well, though they are expected to start the season in Maine.

The Providence Bruins will play a preseason game tomorrow and Saturday. Tomorrow’s game will be in Springfield, with Saturday’s at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. Both games will be at 7:05 PM EST.
