Boston Bruins Drawing Inspiration From Capitals

As the Boston Bruins prepare for the new NHL season, the team is hoping for much better luck this time around. Boston missed the playoffs last year, in what was an extremely disappointing year for the organization.

The team was inconsistent on the ice, and they just couldn't muster up enough to win games. Part of this was due to multiple injuries ravaging the roster throughout the season.

Hampus Lindholm pretty much missed the entire season, which caused some issues. Charlie McAvoy was also hurt, and the team just wasn't built to withstand too many injuries.

But heading into the 2025-26 season, Boston is looking to the Washington Capitals for inspiration. Washington had a bounce-back year last season, seeing them be one of the more dominant teams in the Eastern Conference.

It seems that the Bruins are banking on the same idea.

"I know the Capitals’ surprising rise has a lot of GMs believing in a retool versus a rebuild, so I suspect we’ll see more teams try to go down that path, but most of those clubs feel likely to get stuck being just okay and not really competing for a Cup.

"Boston feels like they’re about to be part of that trend, especially given how they spent their limited free agent dollars last month," wrote NHL insider James Mirtle of The Athletic.

Boston has done decently this offseason, bringing in veteran Viktor Arvidsson. But other than that, the Bruins have had a lackluster offseason.

The front office seems to believe that health could be a big factor in how this upcoming year plays out. However, banking on players to remain on the ice is risky and isn't typically a winning formula for most teams.
