Boston Bruins Extend Matthew Poitras

The Boston Bruins today extended forward Matthew Poitras to a one-year, two-way contract extension. The deal carries an $850,000 cap hit. Poitras appeared in three games for the Bruins last season scoring a goal and finishing as a plus-one. He appeared in 69 games for Providence recording 44 points on 13 goals and 31 assists. Poitras was a plus-one with six power-play goals and three game-winning goals. He was fifth on Providence in points, fourth in assists, and tied for the team lead in power-play goals. In the Calder Cup Playoffs he had four points in four games on a goal and three assists; he was even in plus/minus.

Poitras spent three season in the OHL with the Guelph Storm where he appeared in 164 games. He recorded 160 points with 42 goals; he was a +11. In 11 playoff games he had ten points on three goals; he was a minus-six. He also appeared in five games for Team Canada at the World Juniors Championship where he had two goals, two assists, and was a plus-three.

The Bruins drafted Poitras 54th overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He joined them in 2023-24 where in 33 games he had 15 points on five goals. He was a plus-four with a game-winning goal. In 2024-25 he appeared in 33 games for Boston recording 11 points on a goal. He was a minus-five and the lone goal was a game-winner. He also appeared in 40 games for Providence that season recording 41 points on 17 goals. Poitras was a plus-four with seven power-play goals and a game-winning goal. In eight Calder Cup Playoff games he had two goals and two assists. He was a minus-five with two power-play goals.
