Boston Bruins prospect and Providence Bruins forward Dans Locmelis has been selected for Team Latvia’s roster for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 in February.

The 21-year-old has appeared in 30 AHL games with the Bruins’ AHL affiliate this season, registering 12 goals and nine assists. The 6-foot, 179-pound forward now has 15 goals and 18 assists in 36 games in the AHL. Last season at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Locmelis collected eight goals and 25 assists in 40 games before signing a three-year entry-level contract with the Bruins at the end of the year. The Jelgava, Latvia native was selected by Boston in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

Locmelis Representing Latvia

Locmelis has represented Team Latvia in three IIHF World Championships from 2023 to 2025, earning a bronze medal in 2023. At the 2025 tournament, the forward led all Latvian skaters with four goals and second on the team with six points. Locmelis has also played for Latvia at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2022, 2023, and 2024, as well as the IIHF U-18 World Championship in 2021 and 2022. In September 2024, Locmelis helped Latvia secure a berth in the Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games 2026 at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Locmelis played for Lulea in the J20 Nationell and produced a terrific season in 2022-23 with 59 points in 44 games, and was a top 3 player in back-to-back World Junior Championships and a top player in the 2023-24 World Championship.

Locmelis is climbing the rankings among Bruins prospects and is an intriguing young player. He can play center, and left wing, and will be teammates with former Bruins Kaspars Daugavins and Eduard Tralmaks on the Latvian team.
