The Boston Bruins let goalie Brandon Bussi walk over the offseason, and he has been performing well in his first 13 NHL starts, posting an 11-1-1 record with a 2.11 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage, and a shutout. Bruins fans have been frustrated seeing the performance of Bussi, who is the fastest goalie ever to reach 10 wins to start a career. The Bruins may have let him walk, knowing they had something potentially better in the system, some might think Michael DiPietro, but it’s actually Simon Zajicek whose play to start this season has created a goaltending competition. Zajicek this season is 10-1-1 with a 1.93 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage. Last night for Providence, he stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced in Providence’s win.

The 24-year-old netminder signed with the Bruins out of Czechia. Last season, in 29 games for HC Litinov, he went 15-13-0 with a 2.12 goals against average, a .930 save percentage, and five shutouts. He also appeared in two games for the Czechia International team, going 2-0-0 stopping every shot he faced with two shutouts. The season prior, in 20 games for HC Litinov, he went 7-13-0 with a 2.95 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. He also appeared in two games at Czechia2, going 0-2-0 with a 2.93 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage. In his lone game for the International team, he stopped 20 of the 24 shots he faced.
