Boston, Detroit ranked among best cities for hockey fans

When it comes to hockey, no one does it better than Boston and Detroit — or so says the latest poll.

WalletHub released its 2021 ranking of the best cities for hockey fans, and Boston sits atop the list while Detroit ranks second. The list is generated using 21 indicators, such as ticket prices, stadium capacity and the performance level of each city's teams.

Here are the cities within the top 10:

  1. Boston, MA (Bruins)
  2. Detroit, MI (Red Wings)
  3. Pittsburgh, PA (Penguins)
  4. New York, NY (Rangers)
  5. St. Louis, MO (Blues)
  6. Denver, CO (Avalanche)
  7. Newark, NJ (Devils)
  8. Tampa, FL (Lightning)
  9. Chicago, IL (Blackhawks)
  10. Buffalo, NY (Sabres)

Boston has long been a desirable destination for not only hockey fans, but players as well. Just ask Taylor Hall. TD Garden features sell-out crowds for every Bruins home game, and support for the boys in Black and Gold runs deep.

Detroit has also been considered one of the best hockey cities for a very long time. They don't call it "Hockey Town" for nothing. Although the Red Wings haven't made it to the playoffs since the 2015-16 campaign, support for the team has never wavered. That was made clear when the team moved from the iconic Joe Louis Arena to the new Little Caesars Arena in 2017.
