The Stanley Cup Final has delivered back-to-back overtime thrillers, and Game 2 ended with Brad Marchand streaking in on a breakaway to seal a 5–4 Florida Panthers double-overtime win over the Edmonton Oilers.
Marchand, who scored twice in the double-overtime victory, capped off Florida’s comeback by burying the deciding goal 8:05 into the second extra frame.
The Panthers had let a late lead slip when Corey Perry tied the game with just under 18 seconds left in regulation, but Marchand’s second of the night gave Florida the split and home-ice advantage just two games into the series.
When asked to describe the finish, even after scoring the game-winning goal himself, Marchand wasn’t quite sure of what happened on the play.
Did Marchand hit the puck in on the game-winner or was it a "phantom backhand?"

The TNT’s broadcast panel asked Marchand whether he actually made contact with the puck or if it was a "phantom backhand." Marchand shrugged off the technicality.
"To be honest, I blacked out," Marchand said. "I don’t even know where it went. It was a fortuitous bounce. We’ll take it."
The 37-year-old now has 10 career goals in the Stanley Cup Final, the most among active players.
Friday’s winner marked Marchand's second overtime goal of this postseason alone. He also scored in OT of Game 3 against Toronto with the Panthers trailing 2–0 in the series.
Marchand credited teammate Anton Lundell for putting him in position to score the game-winner thanks to his assist, and said the Panthers’ mindset remains clear.
"Phenomenal pass by Lundy," Marchand said. "It’s obviously an intense series. I loved our resilience. I really liked our game tonight."
The series continues Monday as the Panthers host the Oilers for Game 3 at Amerant Bank Arena.
