Brady Tkachuk gave Ottawa Senators fans a scare early Saturday night, but the Senators captain returned to score the opening goal in a 3–2 win over the New Jersey Devils.

The incident occurred in the first period as Tkachuk received a pass at center ice and collided with Devils defenseman Brett Pesce, as noted by Julian McKenzie of The Athletic.

"Brady Tkachuk putting a hand on his left hip after that last shift," McKenzie reported on X during the game. "Travis Green mentioned a few days ago that he tweaked it."

Tkachuk reached for his left hip in discomfort and left the ice wincing. He returned to the bench to start the second and tipped in his 28th goal of the season just over four minutes in to put Ottawa ahead 1–0.

“He’s a competitive guy,” Senators head coach Travis Green. “Loves winning, loves competing, loves his teammates. He’s everything you want in a young captain.”

Tkachuk has dealt with hip issues since suffering an injury during the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. He missed games after the break and was forced out early in a March 13 loss to the Boston Bruins.

Despite insisting he was healthy earlier this week, he logged a season-low 13:23 on Saturday, with brief shifts in the third.

Tkachuk logged 14:16 minutes of time on the aforementioned game against Boston but had topped 15 minutes in each of the next three games leading up to Saturday's.

Drake Batherson and David Perron added goals in Ottawa’s strong second period, both times doubling the Senators lead from 1-0 to 2-0 and then from 2-1 to 3-1.

Linus Ullmark made 25 saves and although the Devils scored the final 3-2 goal with 24 seconds left in regulation, the Senators held on to the lead and earned their 37th win of the season.

Ottawa remains in the first wild card position in the Eastern Conference with 79 points in 69 games boasting a 37-27-5 record and sits one point behind the Devils (37-28-6, 80 points) for third in the Metropolitan Division, with two games in hand.
