Bruins' Brad Marchand out at least one game after questionable hit

The Boston Bruins notched a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals on Thursday night but endured a couple of costly setbacks along the way.

Per Amalie Benjamin of the NHL's website, Boston forward Brad Marchand will miss at least Saturday's game against the Winnipeg Jets because of an upper-body injury he suffered as the result of a hit delivered by Washington forward Garnet Hathaway in the second period of Thursday's contest:

"Unfortunately, Brad's going to miss a little bit of time, and that's the end of it from our end," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters on Friday.

As noted by ESPN and The Associated Press, Cassidy was none too happy about the incident in question while speaking with media members following Thursday's victory.

"The [Marchand] one I didn't like at all. ... Hit a guy in the numbers in a vulnerable spot," he said at that time. "I've seen that from that player in the past, so I didn't like that one at all. The league may or may not look at it. When it comes to [Marchand], sometimes they kind of move on. But in this particular case, seems like a vulnerable spot, against the boards, back high."

As noted by ESPN stats, Marchand leads the Bruins with 20 goals, 23 assists and 43 points this season.

Additionally, Bruins forward Anton Blidh will sit through the weekend after he went down with an upper-body injury on Thursday evening.

Boston will begin Friday night in fourth place in the Atlantic Division standings with 48 points, three points back of the third-place Toronto Maple Leafs.
