Bruins Name Marco Sturm As New Head Coach

The Boston Bruins have officially hired Marco Sturm as their new head coach. Although he has coached AHL and International teams, this will be Sturm’s first chance at being a head coach for an NHL team. However, Sturm does have experience in the NHL as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Kings.

The Boston Bruins organization is one that Sturm knows very well. He spent five seasons playing for the Bruins from 2005-2010. Unfortunately Sturm just missed out on the Bruins’ 2011 Stanley Cup victory but he now has the chance to bring the Stanley Cup back to Boston as a head coach.

Sturm most recently coached the Ontario Reign, the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings. He spent three seasons there from 2022-2025. He was successful as the team’s head coach, leading them to the playoffs all three years.

Sturm has already proven to be a strong head coach in many different levels of hockey. Hopefully that success can translate to the NHL as Sturm gets his first chance at being head coach for an NHL organization.
