Following a breakout season, forward Ryan McLeod has re-signed with the Buffalo Sabres. The Ontario native has signed a 4-year contract worth $20 million or $5 million per season AAV.

Sabres Re-Sign McLeod

McLeod signs this new contract following a breakout season with the Sabres. In 79 games, McLeod scored 20 goals and recorded 33 assists for a total of 53 points. McLeod’s 53-point season exceeded his 2023-24 season by eight goals and 23 points. McLeod will look to build upon that total next season.

Sabres Hoping McLeod Will Be Part of Future

Sabres fans do not need to be reminded that the Sabres have not made the Stanley Cup Playoffs since the 2009-10 season. However, there is hope McLeod can be part of the future that takes back to the playoffs and maybe even further.

McLeod played on the Sabres second line as the centre, in between Jason Zucker and Alex Tuch. However, McLeod’s role with the Sabres is not quite known. The Sabres have involved in numerous trade rumours, with Tuch and J.J. Peterka being at the the lead.

Should their be a roster shakeup this summer, McLeod could find himself on the Buffalo first line alongside Tage Thompson. This will all depend on what additional moves the Sabres make this summer.

One of Many RFA’s

McLeod is not the only restricted free agent the Sabres need to sign to a contract. Peterka is also a RFA, assuming the Sabres to do not trade him. Jacob Bernard-Docker, Bowen Byram, Jack Quinn, and Tyson Kozak are other RFA’s on the Sabres.

Bright Future?

The Sabres have a strong collection of young talent that they have acquired through trades the last few seasons. Perhaps this young talent will be the beginning of brighter days ahead in Buffalo.

Maybe, just maybe, McLeod and Josh Allen can be part of two championships coming to Buffalo. We can only imagine the celebrations that would be had in Buffalo.
